Question Trans in limp mode?

I have a 93 Taurus GL trans is the AXOD, when we got the car it did not move at all, and after changing the ATF and filter it jumped into life, However we have 2nd gear only (limp mode?) we have cleaned the main electrical connectors to the trans, but have not checked any sensors yet. we have reset the computer, and still the same. we believe it may be a Solenoid or a valve stuck, so does any one out there know any simple remedies to the problem, all help is greatly appreciated!!!!
