Looking at a GN now I have some Q's

I'm going to be looking at a GN from a dealership early next week and I was wondering what I should be looking for as far as problems and such??? Anyways the car is an '87 GN listed at $18000 and has 30,000 miles, the body looks to be in great condition from the pictures. There's another GN for sale for about $15,000 at another dealership down the road from that that I might check out but they didn't list the mileage on the car. TIA

Re: Looking at a GN now I have some Q's

Just look for the things you'd inspect on any other car

-No rust
-clean, not damaged interior
-straight body panels
-no excessive body panel gaps
-engine fires quickly and on the first try
-engine idles smoothly
-no excessive nouse from engine or turbocharger
-transmission shifts smoothly
-horn, lights and ALL acessorys work and work well
-no odd smells
-no visible exhaust smoke, other that condensation.
-Instrumentation lights up, gages accurate
-suspension is good(push down on the fender over each wheel, if it bounces more than 3 times until it stops, suspension is usually bad)
-steering wheel is straight when the car goes straight
-steering is responsive
-solid brakes

Thats all I can think of.

as far as mechinacal parts on a GN, the major weak link in the drive train is the transmission. these cars never idle smoothly. They are an off center v-6. Anything elese that needs to be known is on the buyers guide.
