saving money on heater hose replacement
the heater hose on my '99 started to leak from a hole caused by the hoses rubbing together in the tight spot they are crambed in. well the g.m. dealer wants $209.00 for the quick connect and three pieces of heater hose which altogether are not 2 feet of hose. mine was the 7" hose that goes from the by-pass metal tube to the "t". well the hose and quick connect have a factory crimp and a clamp on the other end . you can cut the factory crimp off the quick conect with a pair of dikes .just snip the crimp and roll it around the quick connect as you were opening a can . you only want top remove the outer part of the crimp. then twist the hose off the nipple end of the quick connect. and you can re-use the quick connect now you will need 7" of heater hose at a dollar a foot and a # 10 hose clamp @ eighty cents. the hose will slip over the nipple end on the quick connect. there is another 90 degree quick connect on the heater hose and this proceedure will work on it too. you have just saved yourself $207.00 if you break the quick connect one that goes on a f-150 ford will work it is 5/8 s quick connect the last numbers on the package are 003 .and this is the same quick connect that you have when you remove the outer crimp from the factory connector.
