too many miles?
i drive a '99 CRV and it has 216000 miles on it. does anyone think that this is too many for a 5 spd CRV? the engine is weak, i need to downshift on almost every decent sized hill i drive on. i had my check engine light come on about 3 weeks ago, about the time i hit 215000 miles. is this just a coincidence? i was just wondering if i have come close to having my engine die on me, which i really cannot afford right now

Re: too many miles?
You should feel very fortunate to have gotten that many miles out of it. With the check engine light and weak power sounds like your valves are receding. Yes, it does sound like the engine is about to die. Take it in for a valve adjustment asap to buy yourself some time.

Re: too many miles?
My cousin works at a honda dealer and he says that its not uncommon to see a crv come thourgh for service with 400,000 -500,000 miles on them. He said most of them are 97-98 b20b powered cars. Mine has 235,xxx on it although I replaced the motor at 212,xxx due to a burnt valve. I took the head off the old motor and the bores were still cross hatched and in very good shape. That motor is now a crvtec and gets beat daily and is still going.
