'03 Golf vs. Jetta
Hey guys!
So Im hoping your vast expertise can help me! I'm looking to buy either a jetta or golf but I don't know witch to choose... I'll prolly end up modding alot and also having some cargo semi-frequently sometimes large SO... witch is better? Based on; driving, driver enjoyment, comfort, mod capabilities, cheaper to mod, etc.. Your help and input is much appreciated, thanks!! |

Re: '03 Golf vs. Jetta
Welcome to the forum!
If looking for these vehicles for modification, choose the VR6 engine. The VR6 has the power you want unmodified and if you choose to mod you will find more options to improve performance. The 2.0L engine is not made to modify much, but is a economical engine at best with few mod opportunities. The turbo 1.8L and diesel engine works well also, but mods are few. The Jetta or Golf four door are similar in space and comfort so the choice there is preference. The Jetta VR6 is more my style! Franco |

Re: '03 Golf vs. Jetta
I consider the VR6 the top of the line of all these engines. You can do all your mods with this engine. Turbo 1.8L is second in power then 2.0L and diesel Turbo 1.9L. Do yourself a favor and drive all four engines in auto and stick versions. You will know what I mean.
VR6 is the way to go! Franco A quick note: If you get the 2.0L engine you can only supercharge it. Cost about $3000. So might as well get the VR6 or the 1.8L gas. Your choice! |

Re: '03 Golf vs. Jetta
why can i only supercharge?
and im looking at a base 2.0 cause i checked with my insurance and the premiums are really high for anything but the 2.0 or diesel.. so for now im looking at 2.0 and later in the future once my premiums drop id get a VR6 |

Re: '03 Golf vs. Jetta
No problem. With all that to digest saving up for the VR6 I think is your best bet for a power engine and cost effectiveness. Try using and independent insurance agent to shop your quotes for you. They will search 100's of insurance carriers for you and get the best quote. Good luck and let me know what you decide.

Re: '03 Golf vs. Jetta
A Civic SiR, you're in Canada. How cool! Yea, anytime I think I want to get a new car I either go to dealerships and test drive or rent one to get the feel and check out the workmanship. You are doing yourself a big service by comparing cars before purchase. Take your time!

Re: '03 Golf vs. Jetta
Yes Ive driven an SiR already and I'm strongly biased toward it because I really love my current 99 civic hatch and I loove hatch's.. So that is a big factor for me to get the SiR but I still have to go drive the VR6 plus the SiR has a great amont of standard features..
