Why doesn't Lamborghini race its cars?
Any ideas?
Krohn-Barbour Racing felt that the factory didn't give them enough support last year in the American Le Mans Series when they raced two Murciélago R-GTs. http://www.krohn-barbourracing.com/news/ http://www.americanlemans.com/home/index.aspx Lime Rock 2004 Last edited by Jaguar D-Type; 05-30-2006 at 07:47 PM. |

Re: Why doesn't Lamborghini race its cars?
They deliver huge v12's for class 1 offshore powerboats, I quess that's enough publicity for them.
But I think the racing murcielago's look to good not to race I hope they race at Le Mans some day. |

They dont race because they're too good. They dont want to make everyone else look bad. (thats my opinion).

Well, the Murcielago R-GT didn't win a race last year in ALMS.

Re: Why doesn't Lamborghini race its cars?
Have you ever driven a Lamborghini?
They're not very good handling cars. Some components, including the transmission are also not durable enough to handle the torque (especially with all wheel drive). Lamborghini is a chick magnet but it is in no way a great super car in terms of performance. Acceleration, sure, but not handling.

New Lamborghini Gallardo race car
- News Wire 10-3-05 German motorsport specialist Reiter Engineering has revealed an initial look at its Lamborghini Gallardo sports car. The 500-plus hp car is being developed for entry in the GT3 category of international sports car series as either four-wheel or two-wheel drive. The image, taken in the early stages of development, clearly shows the distinctive Lamborghini styling of the Gallardo. Reiter reports it has already received orders and further considerable interest from privateer customers, and the finished product will be available in February. Further technical details on the race car will be available over the next two months, while a street version of the Gallardo GT3R will follow within the next month. Last weekend the first derivative of the proposed Gallardo GT3 Race successfully completed a two-day shakedown test in the hands of the newly founded Lambo-Racing customer team. The 4WD car was developed and built by Reiter Engineering at the customer's request. The new Gallardo will race in the FIA GT's new GT3 class as a support event to the FIA GT Championship. http://www.fiagt.com/newsitem.php?key=816 B-Racing RS-Line to enter Murcielago in 2006 FIA GT http://www.fiagt.com/newsitem.php?key=830 |

Re: Why doesn't Lamborghini race its cars?
I don't know about a few years ago, but Audi owns them now. Maybe Audi's afraid that Lamborghini will upstage them.

GT1 cars used to have around 700 hp (Viper GTS-R) a few years ago, but they now have 600 hp because they were often faster in races than (middle-of-the-pack) prototypes.
Audi's R8 was already fast and their new 650 hp diesel-powered R10 TDI should not only be fast but also have great gas mileage which will mainly help at longer tracks. Last edited by Jaguar D-Type; 05-30-2006 at 07:45 PM. |

The Murciélago R-GT is a very different beast though. It weighs around 2,500 pounds.
