street race claims one life

BEVERLY HILLS FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Beverly Hills, Ca. - Beverly Hills Police Department Traffic Division is investigating a fatal collision at the intersection of North Santa Monica Boulevard and North Beverly Drive which occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on October 21, 2004.

This collision was the result of street racing involving three high end performance vehicles. The vehicles involved were a 2004 Mercedes Benz CLK 55, 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera S and a 2003 BMW M3. The vehicles were westbound on North Santa Monica Boulevard, when one of the vehicles, a 2004 Mercedes Benz CLK 55, lost control and collided with two light standards. The driver identified as 26 year old, William Chan was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger identified as 22 year old, Paul Alfonso was transported to the hospital and his condition is unknown as of press release. The deceased driver of the vehicle is from Los Angeles and the passenger is from Vancouver, British Columbia.

The drivers of the other vehicles were subsequently arrested and the investigation is still on going. Speed and alcohol are contributing factors in this collision.

I feel sorry for any family left behind, but as far as I am concerened it is another case of someone out driving their or their cars ability to go fast ....... "A man has to know his limatations"

This was hardly a case of that. I don't care if it was Schumacher or Colin McCrae, racing on the street is wrong at any time. Normal roads are not engineered with high speed travelling in mind. I can understand stoplight bouts, in no traffic (I'm talking just up to the speed limit in the middle of the night type stuff) or at the very least, in the middle of nowhere where you can damage nothing but your own stuff.

He may have been the best driver to walk the earth, he was drinking, he was out driving his abilites at that point .... speed does not kill, stupidity does

No matter your stance, we can all agree that this event was a terrable one to all that he knew. He died, and saying that street racing is wrong (to a point) or that drinking and driving is wrong (of course), won't change the fact that he is dead.
