I've been told it sounds like a collapsed lifter...especially when cold...

Also, my local Nissan dealer [Lockport NY] will not even look at my Canadian-spec X, and the next nearest [Mike Barney Amherst NY] won't do anything about the manifold because it is not yet a warranty item...

Unhappy Re: 2000 Nissan Xterra Exhaust Manifold Crack

Hello all, Did anyone on this forum replace the right side exhaust manifold on a 2000 Nissan Xterra? I tried and realized that I needed more correct tools to continue the job. I tried to use my conventional tools including 14 mm wrench and socket but these tool size felt a litle loose and were not tight. I have a list of questions and maybe someone can help me.
1) Is the engine has to be warm for ease of loosening the nuts?
2) Do I have to remove the catalytic converter to get to the rear and bottom midle manifold mounting nuts?
3) Are 14 mm the correct wrench and socket becuase 14 mm tools were felt a little loose on the mounting nuts?
4) Does anyone have a factory repair manual section on the removal of the exhaust manifold that I can have a copy of it? I will greatly appreciate.

Please help with any questions and comments.
Harry

Re: 2000 Nissan Xterra Exhaust Manifold Crack

Haynes makes a pretty good manual-
Have a full can of wd-40 and remove the upper heat shield a couple days prior and spray all studs including the three on the pipe connection-
Air tools work great-
Pull rt tire and skirt for access-
14mm is the correct nut size-
Just did mine and it sounds great!
Part = 149.00
Personal shop time 70.00
Total 220.00 and skinned knuckles LOL

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead.. But I just bought a 2000 Xterra.. and I noticed the exhaust/Manifold leak.. and it is coming from the Right side so I'm positive this is the problem.. I was planing buying this manifold : http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?quanity%5B14004-4S103%5D=1&pn=update

I have all the air tools needed but I would like to know a few things first:
Do any of you have the part # for the Manifols Studs, I would like to be prepared with new ones of the ones on my Xterra are broken... And any advice on how to remove the broken ones would be helpfull. Would a metric TAP and DIE set be enough???

Pick up a can of this stuff and spray the studs the night before.

How many of each of those studs are needed?

I'm not quite sure. Pick up 3 of each and you should be covered if you get a break or two.
