Why Honda Sucks

Here is some of the fun i have had with my 2001 Honda Insight

Honda Insight hybrid MSRP: $26,000. The total cost of; warranty, repair, recalls, and diagnosis as of Nov. 7, 2005 is approx. $14,119.94, which is 54.3% of the MSRP.....

Random complete loss of the Integrated Motor Assist engine (Battery power) which I believe has put my life at risk.

Honda's consistent inability to properly diagnose my Honda hybrid's problems without a "Check Engine Light", this has lead to even MORE damage.

Three catalytic converters within 155,000km. Because of the complexity of this Honda hybrid there isn't any other options then to purchase the parts through Honda, at approximately $2000 how can Honda allow the need for replacement every 60,000km?

Long waiting periods for almost every part I have ever needed for my Honda hybrid, which in turn has caused weeks, if not months of vehicle downtime and approx. 367 days of open work orders/un-resolved problems.

At 150,000km I have a lifetime MPG of only 42.3 MPG, a large contrast from Honda's initially advertised 68 MPG.

Strange, electric noises randomly coming from the IMA Battery Compartment

Water damaged $300+ speakers, carpet rot and interior rust probably due to a chronic drivers side window leak that they cant seem to permanently fix

Transmission failure

ABS Brake system failure

A/C failure

Honda imo is not the company it use to be... whatever happened to standing behind the customer? my complete story is on www.hondasucks.ca

Re: Why Honda Sucks

If I paid $26000 for a 2 seater econobox, ya, I'd complain about only 42 mpg, a well driven Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro can get that and would be a hell of a lot cheaper and probably more reliable.

Honda dealerships feel their cars sell themselves these days so they don't need to really do anything for the customer.

Re: Why Honda Sucks

So you bought your a year and 3 months ago and you already have 100,000 miles on it? That's a lot.

if you are stupid enough to spend 26k on one of those cars then you deserve everything you get... why would you even want to drive one of those? save 'em for queers and hippies

It happens. No one is perfect.

But I will agree that EVERY dealership needs to have better service. I avoid them at all costs.

Re: Why Honda Sucks

anyone who tries to sell you a catalytic converter because "it's dirty" or "the manufacturer reccommends it" is full of b/s. the ionization power of catalytic converters can never go bad, no matter what anyone tells you. the only reson to buy a new converter is because its badly damaged and crumbled to pieces.

Re: Why Honda Sucks

id hate to find out how mcuh the replacement batteries are for those things.

i drove one, and you put your own life in danger by sitting in it. try getting on the freeway in one of these.

hybrids have a way to go, i would not jump out to buy one of those when a civic or corolla will get close to 40 for just a regular reliable gasoline engine. i will wait a few more years to see which fuel source comes out on top.

I disagree. The site is quite clear on this.

The site makes the point quite clearly that an undiagnosed 02 sensor malfunction made the car run rich for an extended period of time.

Such a rich mixture will overheat the converter and cause the internal catalyst support structure to melt, rendering it ineffective and may plug the converter. (this point was not made by the site but in my career as a mechanic, I encounered this regularly)

One of the main points of the site was that the sensor failure could not be detected by the dealer but was eventually detected by the independent mechanic.

Re: Why Honda Sucks

i thought cats could go bad over a long period of time if they "used up" the catalyst in them. also, if oil is burned excessively it will clog em pretty good, like my moms ford econoline van did lol
