Suggestions For My First Car

I'm looking for a car with these primary criteria. They go in order of importance to me.

1) not too expensive (probably between 4k-10k, so I'll likely buy used)
2) reliable
3) fuel-efficient
4) safe
5) high part availability (so repair costs are lower)

I've heard many Honda models meet these criteria, but I haven't done much research yet and I thought getting some suggestions for potential models would be a good place to start. So please suggest away!

Also, am I missing any important criteria? If so, please point them out to me.

Re: Suggestions For My First Car

in my opinion, you can buy a second hand one from secondary market
and then change it as per your owm taste. you know many cars in secondary market is good, and you just need to change parts of the component, such as the painting of the car, the car bulbs into LED bulbs, the headlights and so on. May it can help you save a lot of money.

Re: Suggestions For My First Car

RE, your order of importance from 1 to 5

1) lets change the word likely to definitely

2) The average depreciation factor for a vehicle model years 1 to 5 is about $2500. annually so if you buy a car for $5000. and can drive vehicle with no major issues for 2 years " congratulations " you have reached reliable.

3) A homework Q to simply google and compare to another vehicle you may have in mind.

4) If a vehicle does not have a salvage title then its safe by my standards, but hey to each his own.

5) Availability of parts will not be an issue unless you buy a Lada.

A good place for you to start is to test drive some vehicle's within your budget that you like and follow this link for advice http://www.usedcartips.org/TESTDRI.html from there with a bit of study on next steps you will get value for your bucks

Many come into this forum to promote products - this one is funny - lets all buy from a secondary market, paint the car and be sure to get led bulbs,,, thanks for the post, you made my laugh out loud for the day.

A honda would not be good. I know people who have hondas (old and new ones) and honda seems to have this sickness wherein after a few months of driving, some clanging sound coming from the chassis could be heard. IDK if it could be fixed.. but hey bro Honda is very fuel efficient, high part availability, hm.. I can say safe, I guess.. and maybe the new models are reliable.

Try buying cars like Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Vauxhall. But may I recommend the Toyota Altis? also, Mazda's are okay. Mazda 2, 3, Demio.. The new models are reliable as well.

I don't know a lot about cars, but I know a few. What I said was only from experience and what I heard.

Re: Suggestions For My First Car

If you're looking for a sedan that is also kinda fun to drive, I would get the Toyota Corolla S. If you're looking for a fun coupe or convertible, I would get a Camaro or a Mustang. Or maybe a old BMW M3. Hope I helped!

Re: Suggestions For My First Car

The first and foremost important thing you will need to do before purchasing your first car is being certain about your requirements. You will need to be specific about the use which you are going to make with your car. And the car you are purchasing should be able to serve that particular requirement. If you want a car just for the basic use, like going to the office or college, its better you give more preference to a long running one, and if you want a car to impress others, better go with luxury.
