my sump bolt wont tighten

i have an oil leak in my newly purchased 2nd hand '97 barina corsa, and its coming from the sump bolt which cant be tightened as it only tightens so far and then becomes loose again,, so do i only have to replace the bolt,, or would it be the sump thread that is stripped ???cheers

Re: my sump bolt wont tighten

Sounds like the sump thread is stripped. Remove the bolt and visually inspect it. I would also recommend fitting a new sump gasket which should be thicker and therefore, not bottom out when tightening and give a better seal at the same time.
