Tachometer needle bounces / 95 Pathfinder
Hello all
1995 4WD Pathfinder SE I'm having problems with what seems assume to be a tachometer problem. Most of the time it sharply jumps randomly (even when idle), and other times it won't move at all. Temperature doesn't seem to effect its behavior as it happens when cold or hot. All other sensors are working fine. Would anyone know if there is more to this than a tach replacement? Also, if anyone has any advice on how to replace one, that would sure make my day! Thanks! |

Re: Tachometer needle bounces / 95 Pathfinder
i am not sure if it is the same for a pathfinder but in other cars i have worked on with my buddy, a bouncing tac or speedo is do to a bad cable or cable connection. probably somewhere near the tranny. we just replaced the cable and it fixed the problem. if you like to work on cars and have the basic tools and knowledge you should be able to do this fix yourself. for detailed instructions get a haines manual for your specific year and model pathfinder. hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.
After talking to the nissan dealer I came to find that there is an instrument cluster where all the gauges are combined into one single panel. odometer, tach, speedometer etc. Isnt a cable that runs to the engine, so the only thing to do is replace that instrument cluster |

Not necessarily.... the tach signal comes from the distributor. There is a resistor between the distributor and the instrment cluster. Call the Nissan parts dept and ask for a tachometer resistor. It's about $16-18 from my local dealer and they will tell you where it is to replace it. It's pretty easy.

Re: Tachometer needle bounces / 95 Pathfinder
Have a look at my recent thread.
I didn't see your thread until after I posted mine. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=954691 Have a look at the Fusible Links going into the Positive Battery Post. Power to the Tach from there - I was told by a guy at a Wrecking Yard. Possible bad connections - lot of vibration there. DoctorBill

Re: Tachometer needle bounces / 95 Pathfinder
funnyfrog25 where is the resistor located. I have talked to a guy at the Nissan parts counter and he cannot see it located in the wiring diagram... Any help would be good.
