Mazda 3 engine noise
Hello! Recently my 2004 Mazda 3 2.0 has been making a sort of shuffling noise when idling and driving, I was wondering if anyone could help make out what this noise is?

Re: Mazda 3 engine noise
Your engine seems to be making a few sounds. First, I can hear a low pitched howling or groaning sound that reminds me of a bad pulley. It could be an idle pulley bearing, an alternator pulley bearing, or even the water pump. Check all the belts too because bad bearing put a lot of extra strain on the belts.
I also hear an unhealthy clicking/squeaking sound that sounds like poor lubrication in the valvetrain. It doesn't sound like anything in there is broken... yet. I would say pull the valve cover and look for just a general buildup of gunk. Change the oil, and put some high quality oil in it. Your engine sounds generally unhealthy right now. As if it hasn't had the oil changed in a long time or its running low on oil, but it doesn't sound like it's too late. You may be able to save your engine by catching up on maintainance and just taking better care of it.
