Wondering if this is a good deal...

I'm looking at an '05 Saturn Ion 2 Quad Coupe. It's an '05 leftover, so it's not used. Mileage is 300. The options are as follows:

Driver air bag
Anti-lock breaks
Air Conditioning
Cruise control
Passenger side air bag
rear window defroster
power lock doors
power mirrors
power windows
Power steering
Tilt wheel
Automatic Transmission
Keyless remote entry

The MSRP was $17,000 something originally, but it's now a year old, so I can get it for under $14,000, plus a $500 dealer inscentive.

Would you say this is a deal I can't pass up? Or if I wait, is there a good chance a deal like this will come up again?

woah 17K new for the 2? under 14K wouldnt be too bad of a deal for being *new*.

but i have to say, i test drove a 05 quad coupe 3 which had just about everything you could stick on it, and it was around 17K.

I call it like I see it, and apparently I am not the "only" one with this opinion, did you not read the many posts on here from unhappy consumers...
and what exactly are you referring to when you say things? Cars, you mean?
It seems cracked cylinder heads are common, and you say they are not junk, you must be used to sub-par.

Re: Wondering if this is a good deal...

i say they are not junk because im apart of saturn groups and find tons running great, running on nitrous, boost, anything. there are some that are bad like ive said, but NOT ALL OF THEM! all manuafacturers have issues and yours seems more part of gm then saturn

and what's your point? Search the internet, I read it all over the place, it's a manufacturing flaw. ‘Cause your going to get on this forum and state what crap they are being a Saturn mechanic... want to hear something even funnier, they had to call an engineer when fixing my Saturn, apparently the mechanics know nothing. That should be a big RED FLAG. Again all just my opinion, and that is what is great about America, I can have one and I am allowed to tell anyone and everyone I can.

Right, you’re the grease monkey and I am the one that is not too bright, you have machines; I believe they are called Candy machines to run diagnostics for you... then the computer spits out an error code and that’s too complicated to figure out. I at least am able to spell, use proper grammar, punctuation etc, and convey my thoughts on paper, and don’t attack one personally because they are on a forum expressing their opinion.
Never claimed to know anything about cars, I just know Saturn sucks and apparently, the prerequisite for a job is being of below average intelligence not to mention being a dick.

"apparently the mechanics know nothing" ??? sounds like an attack to me. You dont have the slightest clue do you??. I also didnt know any one was marking me on my grammar, punctuation etc....oh for the record you spelled candy wrong its CANDI. Another thing, you actully think that these machines (tech II) do all the work for us?? ask any machanic, I think that they will tell you differnt. We know your pissed about your car, but what the hell do you want us to do about it, yes you expressed your self, we know we get so stop acting like your 5

Why aren't you at work, shouldn't you be "fixing" someone’s car? Every time I go into Saturn they are back-upped, must be cause of all the "good" work you do. I understand that the CAND"I" machine does not do it all for you, but soon, you will be obsolete. By the way, yes generally people use spelling, punctuation, grammar as a way of reading your intelligence especially via computer, on-line. Cannot base my judgment of you by the way you speak, which I am sure by now is a form of slang/Ebonics. Just for the record, I did not attack you until you attacked me, must be feeling a little defensive about the shitty job you hold, for the shitty company you work for.

How long did it take you to go over that one for spelling, grammar, punctuation etc....

Re: Wondering if this is a good deal...

I want to put in my two cents if its not too late. I dont know about the 2005 ions but the 2006 onces are excellent. I bought this 06 level 3 sedan with 1900 miles in Feb (currently has 6200 miles). Not a problem with it at all. At first the gas mileage was only at 20 mpg but now it is at 30 mpg average 90% city driving. That is with premium gas but that is still not bad considering it is with the new 2.4 liter engine and it is designed to use premium gas. My previous car was a 98 corolla and yes I probably should have gotten a new corolla instead but hey I think they did it right with the 06 ions. You really outta check out the 06 models. As far as having problems with cars everyone gets a bad egg car. My dad bought a 99 malibu that had nothing but problems (even though it didnt really start until about after 50k miles). So it isnt just saturn its gm as a whole. Basically you win some and you lose some. My mom even bought a 84 ford escort new at the time which had problems including a cracked head. Yes I can see this is an american trend although I really think that american car manufacturers are making a comeback.
