engine problems

I just bought a 93 mx6 2 a week ago down in ft. lauderdale. The only problem with the car was that you would be driving for about 10 minutes or so, and u would feel the car sputter a bit, like a jumpy acceleration. This would happen for a minute or so, only when my rpms exceed 2500 in any gear. After a minute, there would be one last jump and the check engine light would come on, but the bumping would completely go away for the rest of the time my car was on.

I drove it about 600 miles back home, and it ran fine. then I turned the car on a day later and there was a really high pitch screeching when it was warming up. I dont know if these two problems are related and if anyone knows what the problem might be.
