No Shiftup
1999 Chrysler LHS ... 3.5, V6
The odometer reading doesn't advance nor does the speedometer register. There's no up-shift ... stays in lower gear. Can move shift lever between 3 and OD with no shift up or change in RPMs. Estimating: at 40 mph it turns 3000 rpm and at 50 mph, 4500 rpm. The Check Engine light is on also. What is common to all???? |

I just fixed this problem on my 99 a few minutes ago. You need to replace the Output Speed Sensor on the transmission. It's not too hard, the hardest part is getting the car up off the ground so that my fat ass can fit under it. There are 2 sensors on the drivers side of the tranny. The one towards the front of the car is the Input Speed Sensor, the rear one is the Output Speed Sensor. The fact that the speedo doesn't work tells me it's the Output Sensor. Just disconnect the wire connector from the sensor, check that the wire is intact. If so, change the sensor and you're good to go. You'll need a 1' deep socket to remove it. Good Luck. |
