Rear motor mount inspection on 91
Where do I find the rear mount? I have no service manual.
If I can see it can I inspect it for wear or it's too crammed in there to visually inspect it? Car has 170,000 on and the front one is bad so more then likely the rear (since that takes most the load, correct?) should be replaced too? Is that something I can do with no problem? Front one looks easy but the rear, till I see it, HMMMMMM???? |

Re: Rear motor mount inspection on 91
Left motor mount (which is at the rear of the engine compartment) is probably shot at 170,000 if it's never been replaced. If you have an automatic, start the baby up, put it in 'D,' keep your foot on the brake and turn the A/C on. If you get a lot of vibration, the motor mount is the culprit.
I've always paid someone else to replace it. Be aware that it is very expensive (for the original Honda part) -- somewhere up around $300. But there are after-market ones available for a lot less. I wouldn't even tackle it without a manual. My Chilton's has detailed instructions on how to put load on the motor mounts before final tightening. |
