A 17 year old girl driving a regal??????
I was (and still am) interested in buying a buick regal (1984-1987) for my first car (Yea i am a 17 year old girl). Recently i found a '84 buick regal for sale for $1300.00. i fell in love with the car. The car was beautiful on the outside. It was all black with no Dents or scratches with a white ragtop, a sunroof, and dual pipes and white interior. But it need some work. It needed a passenger door panel, a headliner and a metal piece to go around the ragtop and that was all. Well My stepdad was putting up the money for my first car . He said that he doesn't think the car is worth $1300.00 because it needed so much work. He also said that i don't need a buick regal because he thinks that "BOYS" will try and steal it. Everyone else also said that i don't need a regal because girls don't drive "them kind of cars". My question being, in your opinion do you think that regal was worth 1300.00 and Is there anything wrong with a 17 year old girl having a buick regal, which is my dream car, for her first car??????????

Re: A 17 year old girl driving a regal??????
First. A 17 year old girl will soon be making her own decisions about most things in life. Everyone better get used to it! If YOU want a Regal, then that is exactly what YOU should strive for.
Second. The parts needed are cheap at a junk yard. Third. Most any car that runs well is worth $1300. Most of us grown men have a lot of toys (boats, bikes, motorcycles,etc...) that cost a lot more than $1300. Finally. Remember it is his money, so go easy on him. If you can get a job $1300 is not that much to save up on your own. Good Luck.

GET THE REGAL!!!!!!
I'm a 17 year old dude from North Carolina, and in a high school where everyone has eclipses, hondas, and beat up trucks, I drive a 94 park ave. I love driving it, and I hope you love your regal.

an 84 Regal is 20 years old. Lots of years on the car which could mean lots of repairs in its future.

Re: A 17 year old girl driving a regal??????
Should a 17 YO girl have a Buick? Why the heck not?????? A girl (just like a guy) can drive what ever they can afford! Whether it's a Buick, a Corvette, or a Cabrio.
Now while the person with the money does have the right to make a final protest (it's his money afterall) if he is allowing you to choose, you should be trusted to make the right decision once you have the right information, and people have to understand the whole "guys s/b in this but, girls should drive that" thing is "so not-cool". Besides, "Boys" try and steal Hondas and Explorers. Why would they steal a "grandpa" Buick? I'm a 35yo koot so I think of 17 as still being a kid, but close enough to being an adult to be able to make some reasonable decisions. Do a search for cars around $1300 and see what you get and compare. If you find similar cars for sale, he can't use that against you. Now comes your first lesson in haggeling! Remind him this will be a valuable lesson for your young mind. It will teach you important skills in the marketplace. As far as this Buick is concerned, if it runs good, has reasonably low miles (~13Kmiles/yr is the average in the US so if it's under 200K that's not bad) and seem to drive good, $1300 may be about right. Of coarse at 200K miles, it would be better if it had a recently rebuilt engiine and tranny. |
