Growling noise on my front end

My 02 Trailblazer has a growling noise coming from the front end. I thought it might be my wheel bearings going bad but I just change all my brake rotors and pads and while it was on the lift I tried the shacking test and they all felt normal. What could this be. It starts at about 20mph and then when coming to a stop you can hear it wind down loud. could this be differential gears? thanks

Welcome to AF, no way to really diagnose noises from here, but I have replaced several TB w/bearings in my shop. Someone has to check/road test for a proper diagnosis.

A buddy of mine just took a ride with me to diagnose the growling sound and he said it doesnt sound like wheel bearings. he suggested to check the front differential oil level because it sounds more like gears. could this be the problem? thanks for replying

Maybe? Any play in the front bearing hubs?

No. I changed the brake pads and rotors not too long ago and checked for play with the tires installed. Everything felt normal.

I replased both front and rear differential oil. Any one knows if I need an additive for a 2002 trailblaze LS 4x4. I still here the same raoring sound!

To check for wheel bearing noise.
Drive straight down road 30 - 50 mph and turn wheel to right or left just a little and see if noise changes.
If so you have a bad wheel bearing?
What speeds does it make noise?
Does noise increase with MPH?

The noise is like a roaring sound. It starts at a bout 10-15 and it stays at the same sound levle through out, but when I slow down to about 5 and let it coast without gas, I can hear the sound more profound. I have tried turning while driving to test the wheel bearings and it does seem to get a little worst when turning to the left. Also do you know if my 02 trailblazer LS 4x4 requires an additive on the differentials. Thanks for replying.

Thanks for replying. Now I had another person test drive my TB since the roaring continued and he said its defenetly my foward right wheel bearing. So Im replacing both RH and LH foward bearings and was wondering if anybody has any objection on buying Replacement bearing brand from auto parts warehouse web site? Thanks!

Just .
Stick with the good major brand bearings.
Most local parts places have good deals on bearing.
