97 Escort - Key Won't Turn
Hey everyone.
I've got a 97 Escort and just recently I went to start it, but the key won't turn. I saw a piece of metal that was loose inside of the ignition, but the first time I got a screwdriver and manuevered the piece around so that the key would fit. It did, but then my girlfriend took the key out now the key will not turn the ignition. Any ideas? Thanks |

Sounds like your ignition switch is broken and needs to be replaced.

Is that usually an expensive repair?

Re: 97 Escort - Key Won't Turn
Depends on what you consider expensive.
I don't know for sure what the parts cost, but I would expect it to be a relatively inexpensive repair. If you can do it yourself, great, if not... pay more. Depends where you take it. |

Ford sells a kit for tumbler repair. Matches your existing key. Rather simple work.
