leaky injectors 88 trooper
Hi,
I've got an 88 with a 2.6 and I have recently had chronic problems with leaky injectors. At first, it was #2 and I changed the o-ring and that took care of it. Now, #1 is leaking big time (we're talking spray and puddles). I pulled the throttle body and fuel rail only to find that the o-ring looked OK. Changed it anyhow, put it all back together and its still leaking like crazy. Do the injectors themselves ever sprout leaks? Is it possibly the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad? Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: leaky injectors 88 trooper
I have seen one do this before and it was the injector that had a leak not the o-ring

Changed the suspect injector (which came with new o-ring and seals) today. It seemed fine during test drive but driving later this evening, I noticed gas smell again. AAAGGGHHHH! I don't know if its the same injector-- I'll check it tomorrow and report back. Continuing advice appreciated.

PROBLEM SOLVED! It was the o-rings. I was installing them dry. When the injector was shoved in the fuel rail, it would roll the o-ring out of its groove or damage it. This combined with the high pressure of the injection system, blew out the o-ring. By applying grease to the o-ring prior to insertion, I have now been gas fume free for more than a month. Now if I can just figure out a way to keep that door hinge from creaking......
