Car stereo draining battery

I'm in the UK so dunno if anyone can help but got a 2001 Peugeot 106 and have taken the factory fitted stereo out so can fit a cd player. Only problem is that becuase the new one has a memory for storing radio stations etc its drawing way too much power from the battery causing it to go flat constantly and the garage have got no advice, their only suggestion was to re-wire the car to match the stereo and I'm not paying for that! Does anyone have any suggestions apart from buying a new stereo cos whats to stop the same thing happening again?

Did you fit the new cd player yourself?Because even with the genuine stereo it should've had a constant 12vfeed,are you sure the auxillary and 12v power feeds aren't mixed up?-this would cause the battery to go flat.

I would remove the stereo and test that the wires are correct to the stereo,a new unit unless faulty won't decharge the battery.

It's a fairly simple procedure-good luck!

Re: Car stereo draining battery

There are 2 wires for power on your HU -main and secundary - they must be both conected - on some cars you must swich them -mix red with yelow (they usualy have conectors in the midle just for that)...
Your new HU sholud not drain power from your batery if wires are conected in the rigt way.
