trunk rust problems

I was wondering if anyone knew an easy solution to some rust problems. Its around the inner trunk lid. Where the trunk seal is glued. It is rusted through and I was wondering if I should just take the metal from another Nova and try to weld it in or rivet it in? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: trunk rust problems

First, how big is the rust problem? I would just take some simple bondo, if you ever worked with it. If it is rusted all the way through then I would definatly weld a piece on. Then seal it with bondo or some cocking. Im just trying to give tips here. Hope it helps.

Re: trunk rust problems

why don't you just buy a new trunk lid? and then replace the weather stripping in the trunk?

He isnt talking about the trunk lid itself. He is talking about the lip that is on the car, where the weatherstripping is. I had this same problem too. The EASIEST thing to do would be grind all the rust out and build the lip back up with bondo. BUT if you go in and out of your trunk alot your gonna find the bondo is gonna start cracking after repeated closing/slammings of the trunk and the rust is gonna come back worse.
It depends on your budget. If you know someone who can do it cheaply, try and get it replaced with metal. If your on a budget bondo it up and go easy on the trunk closings.
