BMW M3, Audi S4 and lots of snow.

Hey all!

I am looking into a new car (M3 or S4). The problem is I live in Minnesota and am worried about a rear-wheel drive performing well in the snow. Have any of you attempted to drive an M3 w/ winter tires? How did it work out for you?

Almost all of my cars have been BMWs, so I am unsure about the S4 (although the Quattro would be ideal).

Thanks!

Ehhh, as little as i like to suggest the S4 over the M3, RWD cars just dont do well in snow. Snow is the only condition under which i'd suggest the S4, but unfortunatly for you, you live in it. If you could use the M3 as a summer car and drive something else in the winter, that would be ideal, but your wallet might not be able to handle it. Tough situation.

As long as you dont drive like an ass you can drive any car in the snow. Since my caddy is RWD Ive never had a problem in the snow. Ofcourse with it weighing 6000lbs I guess it would be a little hard to love control of it.
Becides I hate FWD and it wouldnt matter becasue the Audi is so light its practicaly a 50/50 weight distribution.

Thanks Antiburn.

Did you put snow tires on the caddy? I had a RWD BWM at one time years ago and it was *nasty* in the snow. Maybe it is the tires?

I have some good year eagles on it. Theres really no "good" car in the snow. Just dont drive like you do in dry weather and go slow and your be fine. Unless you drive a Lincol mark 8 then you cant go anywhere. Yea I dont drive that one in the snow....

I was following a 540i in the wet what I had my RS6, and watched his totally loose controll as he hit a standing pool of water. My Audi just sailed through it, and felt totaly stable the whole time. Theres no substitute for Quattro.

Anyone can hydroplane anytime anywhere. Ive seen people do it doing 45 on a wet road driving straight.

I've hydroplaned. Just never in an Audi with quattro. Never sliped in snow, or slid on ice either. Mercs on the other hand. The same can be said for BMW's (apart from the X3/5)
