i think, as well as the saddle, i'd put in a jar of honey.

honey because it's the only food that doesn't spoil, so it could float through space for thousands of years, and it would still be good if they ever found it.

I would put in a video of a daily news broadcast and a recent copy of the Times or some other newspaper. That way the aliens could see what a f*cked up world we created for ourselves. I would also include a DVD of "The Spy Who Shagged Me" and the URL for Youtube just so they'd know we're not all assholes all of the time.

At the average space temp all biological processes will have stopped so food cannot spoil. You feel free to send a nice rare steak, oh wait you are from England better make that well done steak to avoid all that mad cow issue.
