Aftermarket mpg booster

So i have a 96 plymouth SOHC and Ive decided that I have put enough money into it and am only going to make it run because im saving up for a magnum rt. I dont want to spend a lot on gas anymore for this neon so i was curious if there are any cheap aftermarket chips or whatever that can take me from 30 mpg hwy to more? anything that actually works? im going to be using this car so i dont have to take out a loan for the new car. any of those gadgets actually work?

I have that miss fire that doesnt go away already, i just want to max out the fuel economy because i probably cant resell this car.

There is no chip that will add performance or be a gas saver. If you wanna get the most MPG at of your neon, do the small things for it. Spark plugs, wires, PCV valve, check tire pressure and so on.

The ideal air/fuel ratio = 14.7:1 , your auto's ECU/PCU is already programed, the upstream H20 sensor is used for a feedback signal so the ECU/PCU can maintain a constant air/fuel mix.

Re: Aftermarket mpg booster

well... the next thing i am really contemplating is putting a small turbo in it. i may keep this car as a long trip car so i would want more mpg highway. if i were to get a small turbo that maybe puts out 5 psi max, would it help? ive read the sohc can handle 6-8 psi stock for daily driving.

Re: Aftermarket mpg booster

It would make no sense to add a turbo to improve your mpg. The cost of the turbo installation would offset the added 3-5 mpg increase you would see.

Re: Aftermarket mpg booster

One free mileage help is a lightweight right foot. My truck gets 20% better mileage at 60 than at 70, but it's a brick compared to the slippery Neon shape.

I don't care if it takes seven hours to get from LA to San Francisco instead of six, but my wallet does. Just keep your tires pumped up, stay in the right lane, set the cruise control and dial up your favorite Sirius XM station.

Other benefits are less wear on the drivetrain and no more tickets!
