Im buying a 91 GTI from a friend.....Hasnt ran in a year but it does run he works in the city.. The thing is thats its an auto...Can I turn this thing into a 5 speed? Its got 73,000 miles on it...Im gettin it for 750...is that a good deal? Pics will be up soon

hmmm, 750? if that's Y(YEN) it's a steal. if it's £(GBP) it's way over priced. if it's €(EUR) it's probably about right. but i'm guess that as you didn't put a currency down, you automatically assumed everyone reading this is in the same country as you, so that'd make you an american. j/k...
anyway, as long as you are handy with a spanner changing the transmission from auto to manual is straight forward, but will take some time. where i am a '91 would make it a mk2 golf and not a mk3, so the basic parts you'll need are: 020 close ratio 5 speed gearbox - check the syncromesh on 1st to 2nd if you can before pulling it from a car. rod gear linkage - make sure to fit a new bushing kit as they are very cheap and it will need one. flywheel - it's different on a manual clutch - there isn't one on the auto... gearbox mount gear lever and gaitor - i believe the central console is the same if it's a mk3 golf, you'll need an 02A gearbox and a cable gear linkage. hth, j.

Hey thanks...I actually scrapped this idea..It was just a big pain in the ass....I was wondering though could I buy a car over seas? I saw some on this site that I liked http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/cars4sale.html ....Yes I am American.LOL
