Exclamation Alternator problems

Please help - I have just replaced the alternator on my Jeep Wrangler 1995 2.5 at great cost but the alternator is becoming extremely hot after only a couple of minutes and only showing 9 volts charge. Can anyone help me as to the cause?

Re: Alternator problems

Hopefully this will help:

1) Have your battery checked (many auto parts stores will test it for free). A bad battery can cause this.

2) Check your positive battery cable. It can have corrosion (inside the insulation) up to several inches away from the battery. This corrosion can reduce or even eliminate the capacity to transmit voltage.

3) If those don't do the trick, you may have a voltage regulator issue

Also, keep your battery clean...if it gets a whitish powdery buildup near one of the terminals, clean this off and wash it with a mixture of baking soda and water, then rinse well. The stuff on your battery is acid, formed while the battery is charging and emitting hydrogen. The baking soda is a base, which neutralizes the acid.
