can anyone help me with....
hey,
i got a 93 vr acclaim and i just recently had a crash, got it repaired and while it was off the road i put a pod filter on it, car ran fine, had a lil trouble starting at first, but now a couple of days later it doesnt want to start. i drove it to work and home and after i got home i tried starting it again but it just didnt want to go. checked the fuel and spark plugs, and it wasnt either of those, ran it in diagnostic mode and i got a code 12, which said everything was fine, but it still wont start properly. the car will turn over then die almost instantly, the only thing i can think it might be is the MAF sensor or the ecu crapping itself because of the pod. can anyone give me any suggestions or has this happened to anyone else?? thanks heaps peace |

Re: can anyone help me with....
If it is a VR Commodore, it does not have a MAF. It uses a MAP sensor which is connected to the back of the intake manifold. Only the VS Commodore ECOTEC onwards motor used a MAF
However, the most likely problem is nothing to do with your pod filter... Check the harmonic balancer at the front of the engine, it is the big rubber pulley at the bottom/middle of the engine. Check it over for cracks and if it is cracked, the you will need a new one(about $220 fitted from memory) Basically, the rubber pulley keeps the ignition timing in synchronisation as there is no distributor. This causes the ECU to fire the ignition coils at the wrong time, which is obviously going to cause problems.
