Yeah, do that. I'd love to see you try and get a jump on an LS1 from a 20 mph go. An LS1 from 2nd on up pulls hard. I've raced several other Camaros, 93-97 with the LT1, and they can't believe how hard I pull from about 50 on up...

Since it's an LT1 Z28/SS, he'll have to fight his low end torque at that mph. If he's got good tires, he's gonna hook hard...

Not if he's done anything to his suspension or is a competant driver. F-bodies perform very well in SCCA events.

First off, the base SS hp from 98 on was 325 hp. In 2000, SLP added another possibility for exhaust, which gave it 335 hp. Same was true for 2001, mine was a 335 hp optioned SS. In 2002, SLP added a second option for an exhaust, both were good for 10 hp, and also added a freer flowing airlid, which they said was good for 10 more hp. If both of these were ordered on the same car, the car was rated at 345 hp.
Adtually the Website is sort-of correct. In 98 the SS were rated 320 hp and there were some extra packages such as the SLP D/D exhaust which bumped the hp to 327. Then in 01 the power was upped to 325 because of the LS6 intake.

Also in 96, and some of the 97, wasnt the SS labeled as Z28/SS. I remember seeing it written ontop of the air lid/filter

Never seen that on an airlid before, I just know that the sides and rear of the car say "SS". If I owned one of the 96-97's, which would be nice, I could tell ya...

I'd really like a 96 SS because very few were made...

Re: can I beat a Z28

mine is tweaked too... I'm hoping for 305hp with the spray...

bone stock, since he's a virgin racer, you might be able to make a race of it, but once he gets practiced up, or any mods at all...sorry to say, but he'll destroy you...

But you're more than welcome to try... you never know what may happen.

I raced a c5 vette with mods and only lost by 3 cars roughly plus I launced at 2500rpm because I was used to my stock crx si lol but I think my mr2 could own the z28

Re: can I beat a Z28

Here's what you do. Let him take off down the straight and when you catch up ask him where the race is goin down cause anyone in an SS has a chance to smoke a GSR in a straight line. In the twists is were it matters. Either way I have faith in you. Can't wait to hear that SS went down

Yeah the twisties is where it matters... especially when you lose control and steer straight into a wall and kill yourself.

Hate to break it to you but a good ole fashion drag race is where it matters. You can bring up how many Gs your car does, or how well it can slalom but truthfully its all bullshit because when egos are on the line, the car thats faster IS what matters, not how well you can carve a corner.

i have a 96Z28, 96 and 97 camaro z28,some like mine came with like 300-320 hp,also mine was like last few that rolled off line so i actually had guts of a 97 Z28(yey free upgrades). GM underated the hp for insurance reasons they were not 275 that was a # gm came up with to help consumers temporarily get better insurance rates. and like someone already stated thats not a spongy 300-320hp,its rock solid.and at 20 mph rolling and starting race from there forget you even tried to race that z28.my z28 literally launches me back into seat(holds me there) and has a solid suspension and hadle extremely well even on tight turns.now put a basic generic resister external mod(not a soldered in mod chip) for 20$ that adds another 10 hp ,and basic induction mod another 20 hp, + a flow master exaust another 10 hp,your looking at 350hp and thats mild mods and most may be there without even being noticed.and some camaros 96 and 97 also did not come with the lt1 they came with even a newer and better updated version like mine.cant remember off hand what dealer told me but mine has the 1 that some 97s have which is much stronger.ive raced alots and even cars with bigger engines dint have a chance.because the 4th gen 5.7 liter motors were perfected and very efficient, trans and differentials are solid as well.with an actual true mod chip and all limits tweaked and bypassed that camaro itself stock,no other mods just true mod chip will push 320-340hp and with others ive stated better than 350+ easily, and the aero dynamics as well really nice.and just so all know, maybe if ya can hold with him to 130 you may have a chance, only cause the front end seems to lift up slightly and car wants to fly,z28s stock can acheive 150mph,in good conditions, lol i know!!!!! the z28 was able to be tweaked to compete with same year vettes.i have raced a few similar year vettes and they are very close, mine with basic mods is hanging at 350-360hp when i got it that bad boy was scoring at 320 with only a cheap high flow air filter for 10$ extra.go with redneck on his numbers, anyone wanna race z28 and win your car better be packing 375-400hp to be positive youll win.(pray to god the dint add any real motor mod, like turbo, supercharge, nitro, increase compression, change stroke.im a talker so 1 last thing i went to a car show and seen someone with a 97 camaroZ28,i talked to this guy and he sunk 5000$ into engine mods,he pushes like 600hp without kiking in the nitro(so many mods looked like alien technology).i felt like dropping to my knees and saying YOUR MY GOD,AND IM NOT WORTHY!!!!

BS!!!!!! No way you're getting those numbers with those ebay mods. If anything the flow will hurt you more than the stock catback.

BS!!!!!!! A 97 vette would hand you your ass without the use of mods......period. You didn't have 320hp with a freakin air filter.....do you think we are complete idiots?!?!

In closing.....please check the dates on topics when using the search feature. Also, I'd like to know where you're doing your dyno work at, because I want to make an appointment to see if I can hit the 1000hp mark.......
