Also, like sr said, to hit 160+ you need tons of batteries, sound deadener or cement, master/slave amps etc. It's not buying some subs and amps and calling it a day, it's expensive as hell. Also, it's very rare that any of the top spl guys use caps(I'm aware I have a cap in the sig before people start riding me for it, it's been there forever and I'm too lazy to disconnect it).

Re: who can help me hit 170 db?
BTW you won't hit a 180 I'm skeptical as if anyone will ever hit a 180. The world record right now is a 176.something by sweeds or finns or sumthin. The highest level posible is 190db......your not getting to 10db under the loudest possible...... If you wanna quit bein a dumbass car audio NOOB and face the fact that you don't know shit.....then come to us and get our opinions on how you could do mid 140's to 150 THEN we might be more willing to help.
Prince to get 170DB's: Busted old Van: 1000 12 12's : 7500 24 high powered amps: 12000 48 yellow tops 9600 shittons of wiring 150 head unit to run it 100 line driver dunno well call it 400 MDF for a wall 250 resin and hardener 100 alternators...... hmm well if you only bruping then 1000 but to run daily u would need more alts then would fit under the hood.....so well say 1000 32 grand $32,000.00 That's for a van that can only burp, not play music, and it would be a total POS. hmm come to think of it you'll also need a TL and help cuz god knows u couldn't do it yourself..... THEN you would be getting close to 170. Prolly not breaking it. Be realistic NOOB.

Re: who can help me hit 170 db?
i dont recall saying i was on a budget. i dont care what the cost is. i realize it is going to be a massive install. batteries, alternators, etc. but if a friend of mine can hit 150 with one 15, then i should get at least 10 more than that with 2 times the speaker and 4 times the power. by the way kmoney, every 3 db is doubling your sound, not 1.
bumpinstang, get over yourself. i know more about hooking up systems than you think. not that i have to prove myself to you. i happen to be an electronics warfare technician in the us navy. ive been through two years of technician schools. i could build an amp blindfolded from spare parts. so shut the fuck up. you have no idea what your talkin about |

Re: who can help me hit 170 db?
also, the guy with the 3 15s record is an unofficial florida state record. the competition was held at the Pensacola Fairgrounds. the accuracy of the mic does not concern me, what does is that it was the loudest system i have ever heard and if i hook the same db meter up in my car i want it to read the same. not to say that the mic wasn't just as accurate as any other, but it is possible that it's off a little.

Re: who can help me hit 170 db?
i have no idea what I'm talkin about LOL come to me when u can hit a 140 on the TL w/ 2 12's tuned to 28hz and 300 watts. your a dumbass u prolly couldn't even name the major components inside an amp much less even build one..... you prove yourself to be an idiot everytime you post...... u will never hit 170 it takes more then money and equipment.

Re: who can help me hit 170 db?
Chills Germany.....
Go get an astro van. Wait untill RE comes out with their new subs that will move 4" P2P Get about 10 of them. get you a giant enclosure and put them in there. Make the enclosure small and tuned high with lots of port area. Because the more port area you have the less the cone will move with a given wattage this will allow for more burp wattage. Get you a shit load of SH-1's. or something similar. give each speaker about 15,000w. Put as many altinators as you can under the hood. load what rooms you have left with deep cycle batteries. oh and you might want a signal processor and something to syncronize all of the amp outputs so that you get maximum output. with you building it you still wont hit 170dB but it will be loud anyway. burp only with that sort of wattage. oh and i bet yo ucant afford it. Bumpin was giving basic figures. it still cost more than that. and for a van that can only do short burps and not even play music lead alone be driven.... and FYI 180-190dB is right around the loudest you can get with normal atmospheric pressure. now if you'd like to buy a sumbmarine and take it down 15,000ft so you can hit 200dB i will be right behind you. and if you really want to talk to some one who can "help" you head over to AOL chat rooms. there is some person in there claiming they are alma gates. she has hit into the 170's with somehting like 64 kickers. its pretty sad when scottie can do what she is doing with 1/5 the woofers. oh and 3dB doubles wattage. 2000w hitting 140dB 4000w hitting 143dB 8000w hitting 146dB 16000w hitting 149dB 32000w hitting 152dB 64000w hitting 155dB 128000w hitting 158dB 256000w hitting 161dB 512000w hitting 164dB 1024000w hitting 167dB 2048000w hitting 170dB |

Re: who can help me hit 170 db?
by the way, i was checking out the pioneer website. they have a ford pickup with 9 12" pioneers that broke and official national record. he does have quite a few amps adding up to shitloads of wattage. why i dont know. the subs could not possibly be receiving all of it. there is no way they could handle it.

This is a lost cause, for the most part, people here are gonna rip on you, try taking your question to the competition section of car audio forums, perhaps you might have better luck but I don't know. Though for the statement that everyone argues that their stuff is the best....

Re: who can help me hit 170 db?
any coil can handle massive ammounts of wattage for very short periods of time (which are what burps are) so much that usually you will hit the suspension limit before frying the coil for that short period of time. which is how you can feed an XXX15 20,000w in a boom box for 1/2-1sec and hit mid150's....
