Re: How many miles do you have your Isuzu?
My '99 Trooper has 158K and is running great. Other than reported oil burn of 1 qt every 750 miles, non routine repairs have been minimal.
Son has '97 Trooper LS and we rebuilt tranny after 105K. Everything else running well. |

1992 (Trooper LS)
3.2 DOHC V-6 124,926 New A/T @ 122,046 Bought her new; other than the tranny, all we've done is T-belt, w-pump, tune ups and belts/hoses. Great vehicle! We don't use her as much as we probably should. Motor is strong and pretty good mileage. |

Re: How many miles do you have your Isuzu?
1997 Trooper
3.2L 151,000miles No major problems. I did have an unusual rattle that was a puzzler for a while. Rattle from right hand valve train, intermittant, metalic clatter, much worse at times, no systematic times, hot/cold motor, rpm or other logical patterns. Would always go away at higher rpms but that level varied greatly. Other times no rattle at any rpm. After replacing a perfectly good timing belt tensioner(pusher), tensioner pulley and idler pulley, belt too of course, found a bolt that had completely backed out of the rear timing belt cover for the right hand bank. It was trapped in the concave area of the cam pulley and rolling around , rattling against the metal cover and the cam pulley. Sometimes it would catch in a smooth place and just scrape, other times spin with the cam shaft and rattle / clatter loudly. I checked the other cover bolts(both banks) and found all to be loose, a couple just finger tight. Some carb cleaner to degrease and locktite has kept things quiet for the last 30,000 miles. Steel bolts into alloy threads with a generous weeping of oil from the valve covers seemed to cause this. Also: Just bought, 2002 Trooper 3.5L, 29,000 miles, no known major problems. I do have high idle when putting this in drive, seems to be maybe 750 to 800 in neutral and goes to 1100 or so in gear. Really wants to move at stop lights. Searching site now for ideas. Doesn't seem to be vaccum leak. |

Re: How many miles do you have your Isuzu?
My 1986 has over 201,000 on it. It still runs just as good as it did when I got it.

Re: How many miles do you have your Isuzu?
1994 Trooper 4 Dr stick
3.2 SOHC 190,000 miles. Bought it at 16 miles. We have been through a lot together. Starter died at about 80k (I just made sure I parked at the top of a hill for a month or so - another reason to buy a stick). Neutral safety switch, clutch cylinder, and exhaust leak around 80k also. Couple sets of brakes, one set of rotors. Timing belt tensioner went at about 180k (see my post) - changed T belt, tensioner, water pump (it seemed fine), and all belts. Neither rear window is working right now. The motors are fine but the cable broke on one and the up switch does not work on the other. The transmission is starting to slip and I am thinking this may be the end. I admit I have not been as good to my Trooper as he has been to me so I'm going to try to fix him up. After 12 years and 190k miles, it's the least I can do. |

Re: How many miles do you have your Isuzu?
Year: 1991
Engine: 2.8L TBI Mileage:106,000 (BRAND NEW STILL) Any major problems: dead auto got swapped for a 5 speed with a bad t-case (OUCH) but other than that the truck would have to be cut in half to really be a major problem for a trooper. |
