I would not buy a $aleen over an SVT.
What does a 425-hp $aleen cost? $50K? The 390-hp SVT runs $35K and you will be running really high 11s w/ just minor mods. |

Oh jeez... does the whining about what Ford offers in the Mustang ever quit? The 96-98 model years whining was constant because of the embarrassing performance of the Gen I 4.6L GT, then in 99 Ford introduced a much more powerful 260hp version of the GT which is good for a 14 flat by any competent driver. For the giant price of just over $20,000. Anybody who owns a supercharged DOHC Cobra knows the block can take the power, but anybody who's blown one up can also tell you how expensive that block is. Ford was obviously just trying to cut some costs and keep the car affordable. Can anybody name the last 4 wheel independant suspension forced induction high performance auto with over 400hp from the factory priced under $35,000?
I got my 2002 GT Deluxe Coupe with every option save for the Mach 1000 and the automatic for $21,500 brand new. Now in 2003 they offer a 190hp V6 starting at $18,000 running mid 15s, a 260hp GT good for a 14 flat for about $22,000 base, 305hp (wink) Mach 1 that's running low/mid 13's bone stock at $28,500, and a $34,000 390hp (wink wink) Cobra that's pulling mid 12's. Some people won't be satisfied until Ford offers a 1500hp Pro 5.0 car with Air conditioning and complete interior ready for daily driver status for free to loving enthusiasts (offering of course to pay the insurance as well). Relative to the competition, Ford's Mustang lineup is priced aggressively, and has class leading performance. I wish the increase in new car prices would slow down, but to be honest, with things like OBD emissions, airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and everything else the government and buyers are demanding is it any wonder prices are on the rise? Back onto the subject, the Cobra makes more power than the Saleen in reality, just not in ratings. It also comes with decent support from it's manufacturer, unlike Saleen's which are orphaned by their manufacturer. PS the problem with the 99 Cobra's was the mis-match of the intake manifold. A last minute change in the design used created a slight mismatch which significantly affected airflow into the engine.

Like everyone already said. SVT over Saleen.
The Saleen is WAAAAAY overpriced, and you get shit for it. The s281e has 425hp. So does the 03 Cobra. (its rated at 390, but more like 425). ( I have an 03 Cobra) The s281e costs 50+k, i got my cobra for 31.5k new. And I have bilstiens (stock), IRS (stock), and a warranty. Forget the Saleen. Go SVT. |

the only thing I'd give the Saleen S281E an edge on--would be that it does have anwesome stock suspesnion--vs. the pitiful stock suspension of the 03 cobra. I have no qualms about it though, because the Kenny Brown IRS coil over suspensions and k-member---can easily put the non 03 cobras in the 1.20g category. As for the 03s----grip almost as good. But bottom line-----the 03 + some good quality mods here and there------and you sure as hell have a Viper Eater!

Duh.
If I can do it with only 275hp, think of what a whole 320hp can do. |

That sounds backwards to me. An LS1 is what pulls on the top end. LT1's are not known for their top end at all. LT1's are what have the jump off of the line in most instances. If you can beat an LT1 to 60-70 mph, you've got him...
