92 3000gt sl. . .turbo or supercharger?

hey im new and ive read a lot of the posts but im gonna ask this anyway, would it be more effective to twin turbo my sl, or try a supercharger? also, how much should i expect to spend on parts and labor? would putting a vr4 engine in my sl even be an option? thanks

well I'm not sure which would be easier, but yes you can put a VR4 engine in your SL... it depends on what you want; a S/C will give you instant boost and more low end power I think, whereas with turbos, you have to wait for them to kick in but they generally give you greater overall power and the power is more high end. Hope that helps...

TD04 turbos spool very quickly though, so you don't really have turbo lag with TD04's.

If I were in your position, I would sell my car and just buy the VR4...

I'm honestly not sure which at this point is cheaper. TTing it is a viable option, but you need to collect quite a few random parts from a vr4. Generally, unless you are commited to having a boosted FWD car and doing the work yourself, the general answer you will get is that it is easier to just sell your SL and get a vr4.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

alright, well in that case, i think il just keep it n/a and add other parts to raise the hp, like a new exhaust system... i dont want to sell it, and theres always the possibility of having a n/a car and a vr4...

For under 3K you can install all of the parts off a VR4 onto the DOHC N/A and run in the 13s. Of course depending on the driver. Everything will bolt right onto the N/A motor.

I went the turbo route on my na dohc, so far im more than happy with it. I went the route of a getting a donor vr4. It made the conversion go so much easier.

Now, THAT depends on your application.

Yes, turbos are better for top-end power, but that doesnt mean that its better than a supercharger all around. This is why a lot of american cars go with superchargers, because some of their engines aren't built to handle a lot of air pressure, therefore they want a little extra kick, and more torque, which a supercharger will give you more low end torque.

Jeeps, also, a lot of people put superchargers on them for low end torque for rock offroading and other obstacles.

IMO, a turbo set up is better for our cars, but not necessarily better for other cars.
