02 Ram 1500 6 cyl. dipstick correct?

Just had the oil & filter change at a quick lube, went home , van sat few hours ,checked oil , shows overfill of 1 quart. Took it back he said he knows it takes 4 quarts and thats what he put in it. He said some dipsticks are inaccurate on Dodges, has anybody heard this?. He said he would drain a quart but then I would be a quart short. He has to manually select quart amount on oil nozzle but he may have selected 5 by mistake and doesnt want to admit it. If he's right then I don't want to run on a quart low either. I told him the engine could blow seals if overfilled, he said it would have to be 2 quarts overfilled to blow seals. So anybody know of inaccurate dipsticks? 02 Dodge Ram Van 6 cyl. thanx

I know that on my engines, if you put in what it says in the book, it will always show overfull every time. I don't know why that is. I know that as long as you pull the stick out and it shows it has oil in the checkerboard, that's good enough for me.

I wouldn't be too worried. You could change it yourself with exactly the right amount of oil, and then you'll know. Peace of mind is nice.

Exclamation Re: 02 Ram 1500 6 cyl. dipstick correct?

Well finally figured out the deal with quart to much oil, apparently the engine design is not good at draining out the oil if it been running just before draining oil, I took it back and they did another oil change no charge. Right after oil change course they start it and shut it off and checked it , it was about 1/4 quart overfilled both of us figured it will go up some more later when shutoff longer, well i drove to a store had to wait around and hour for something, checked oil again before i left, it showed 1/2 quart overfilled, went home let it sit for about 3 hrs and it was showed 3/4 overfilled, well I figuredit wont get much higher, the next day around noon checked it again and I'll be damn if it showed 1 quart overfilled, damn it takes along time for oil to drain off the engine into the pan.!!!!! so thats gotta mean the dipstick is right and accurate it just takes so damn long to drain off the engine. can't leave van in lube bay overnight to change oil, so he was right he only added 4 quarts just that there still a quart coating on engine that takes hours to drain off for some reason. hope the engine aint full of crudd that it takes so long, also i called another dodge dealer serviceman and he said even 1 quart over is bad for engine. if this happens to anyone else please let me know , thanx

Usually what I do is drain the old oil, and then put some oil in, maybe a half litre jug, and let it drain through overnight. I run diesel oil in my 3.9 and it hasn't killed it yet.
