2005 Jeep Liberty A/C Compressor clutch
2005 Jeep Liberty v6 3.7 215,xxx miles
When I turn on the A/C the clutch does not engage. doesn't even try to... The compressor was replaced about 8 months ago by someone else who put a super cheap murray (100 dollar one they claim my cost for cheap murray reman is 300 after garage discount) compressor on it... The clutch does not smell burned. No fuses blown. All relays there. They said they charged it up with out evac-ing it and it blew cold for one day and next day nothing. So now what else to check? Could it be that its just a cheap compressor? Any input would be nice. Thanks in advance James EDIT: More problems. I've found that this car is known for running hot? and that thermostat change will do no good. Well the water pump is leaking a bit. so I'm going to do that and therm here in few days. The weirdest thing I noticed not too long ago was that even from cold or so hot I cant even touch the upper hose the coolant temp gauge sticks straight up... The wife of my friend said that she drove it 12 miles and the recovery jug exploded or boiled over. Not sure which. Christian brothers claimed to of fixed it but I do not see that the thermostat has been changed... upper hose has been taken off of block. but thats it. Nothing else out of ordinary (they do sloppy work)... I read somewhere that a cheap or going bad battery can cause alot of weird stuff to happen to a jeep or chrysler. Could it be something else? I've never known a 6 yr old a/c compressor to go bad. They got the car free with these problems from parents. Maybe they just need to sell it to someone who can afford to pay the high prices of fixing a jeep? Thanks again in advance... James

Re: 2005 Jeep Liberty A/C Compressor clutch
Car finally made it to my house today. Checked the a/c again, got 0 volts going to a/c clutch. The clutch coil ohms out to 3.5 on 200 scale. Also temp sensor is bad. its ohms out to Infinite once it gets warmed up a bit. I'll double check this once it cools off and I can remove the temp sensor. Second thing. I unplugged the temp sensor and cranked car to see where the temp gauge would go and it goes to just left of dead middle. same as before. BUT CEL came on... So Im about to go get codes off of it and figure out what they are.
EDIT: got codes. one was cylinder #4 mis fire (prolly just water down in there since I washed off engine. Code #2 is Coolant Temp sensor malfunction. I'm going to do water pump, therm, coolant temp sensor and rad cap today.
