Photoset: 24 Hours of LeMons - Michigan 2011
As you browse the different threads on AF, you will find photos of great cars being put through plenty of tests to demonstrate their automotive prowess and show off the beauty of their smooth lines and unique designs.
This is not one of those threads. It IS however, a thread filled with some of the most atrocious (albeit creative) cars this side of a knock-off Fast & Furious movie with no budget. And we couldn't be more excited to show you! Behold, the 24 Hours of LeMons: 24 hours of racing in something that you hope stays together as you round the corners (actually it's endurance racing in a $500 car, so long as the car meets safety standards predetermined by the race organizers – you can find more information here). These photos come to us courtesy of user Mark Pavlovcik during last weekend's event in Michigan. 24 Hours of LeMons Michigan – October 8 & 9, 2011 By Mark Pavlovcik - AutomotiveForums.com Oct. 8/9, 2011 FROM LEFT:Alfa Romeo was represented very well, especially in plaid with this GTV6. Team Single Malt Racing show their pride before hitting the track. They finished 35th out of 100 for the weekend. FROM LEFT:Fares may be hard to find for this Alfa Berlina after a day at the track. And you thought regular cabbies smelled bad. A Milano tries to class up the place a bit. FROM LEFT:That Oldsmobile has seen better days. Which is why it's in this event. If stickers mean horsepower, they may be the only thing that keeps this car going (Dew-Powered, anyone?). FROM LEFT:Anything you can do... I can do bigger (but is it really better?) FROM LEFT:I'm not sure that's what they meant by “lend a hand,” but it works! The “Italian Village” Featured TWO different automakers (scroll down for the Answer* as to how)! FROM LEFT:I dub thee “Mint-Chocolate-Chip-Mobile Sometimes the path to the White House really IS a race. After the races finally end, it's off to the beach to catch some waves ------------------------------------------------------ That will do it for our photos. HOWEVER if YOU were at the 24 Hours of LeMons and you've got some photos to share, let us know! We'd love to add them to our photoset! LeMons Fun Fact: During the race, if you get two black flags (do something wrong such as go off the track or hit someone), the judges give you a penalty. The second time [Team Single Malt was] in an accident Saturday, they gave [them] a pumpkin and made [them] carve the Alfa Romeo symbol into it. Other penalties included dancing around the paddock singing a village people song, or the bikini car wash (yes, guys actually had to put on bikini tops and wash their car). *The car in the "Italian Village" pic is actually two cars put together. They took the front end (including engine) out of an Alfa Romeo 164 and welded it to the back of a Fiat X1/9 and called it the "Launcha Splattos"
