Race Story/Looking for a turbo timer/problem

Ok, I'll start with the race story first. Since purchasing my '90 turbo Laser, I've just been enjoying the heck out of life. Boost is my friend and my savior. I no longer am afraid to pull out in fast-paced traffic. But I have been keeping it safe and not doing any street racing. But Sunday, something really got me pumped to kill my first car. Driving in traffic, Sunday, I saw a Viper SRT-10, an NSX, a turbo Slyvia, and a twin-turbo RX-7. Now for some people that may not be a big deal, but I live in Montgomery, AL, so that was a miracle for me. So anyways, I see this BMW going through traffic yesterday pretty quick, so i decided to play chase. We get to a red light and I'm behind it, so I planned on moving over after the green light and going. After I moved over I heard the BMW floor it and so I did the same and pulled relatively quick for being at its rear bumper. I got past it, gave a wave, and pulled in front of them. Insult to injury. It ended up being some rich boy in daddy's car. I was in awe because it was a 325i, and I had no idea how much power it had. I was thinking 325i meant 325c.i. haha. I looked it up and it was a 2.5 I6 and 185ish HP. That made sense, but I still felt good about the win.

Now, does anybody have any spare turbo timers lying around that they want to sell? I hate having to sit in my car for cool down, and I don't want to just shut the engine down right after stopping.

And then my problem. I have a possible boost leak. I searched both boost leaks and fuel cut, but since the boost is set at the factory level I highly doubt fuel cut. When I boost up to 5,200 RPMs it sputters and if I continue to hold the pedal down, it will backfire. Since I build full boost before 5,200 it made me unsure about boost leak too. Some people have suggested ignition (plug, wires, etc.) but I'm not 100% positive of anything yet. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

You sure it wasn't just a silvia conversion? And how did you know the Rx-7 was TT? Ehh...nice race though. You need to start modding you car up so you won't even bother when a 325 pulls next to you. The only b-mer that's going to get a run out of me is an M3, pretty much all others are just seen as a more expensive Honda.

It's most likely your plugs and wiring if it's stuttering at upper rpms.

Good race though, also get a turbo timer, it will make your turbo last longer.

Could have been a conversion, but looked good enough to fool me. And it was TT because I've ridden beside it before and heard spooling, and it was the 3rd (I think) gen, that the only turbo model was twins.

And about the BMW, I THOUGHT it would be fast. haha. really wasn't

A tt is not needed with a oil and water cooled turbo

I know it's not needed, but I still have to sit and let the turbo cool down, correct? Or can I just shut it off and do no damage?

Re: Race Story/Looking for a turbo timer/problem

Yeah I figured so. I always do, it just bugs me kinda sometimes. I'd rather just step out and let the turbo timer do the rest of the work.

Something to the effect of, do not shut the engine off immediately after high rpm driving or after being under a heavy load. Allow the engine to run for 60 seconds or more.
It's also in the manual. Luckily, I have the original manual and it says it on the visor.

Re: Race Story/Looking for a turbo timer/problem

Hmm, doesnt mention that on the 2g. I personally dont use a tt and like I said before I dont think its going to be totally necissary(sp) with an oil and water cooled turbo, but once you get an oil only turbo then its a must my
