4 speed transmission
i have a 1970 elcamino with a th350 transmission and i am putting a pretty basic 350 in the car (intake ,carb, fuel pump, cam, geardrive, headers, 40 series flows on stock 5.7l block. wondering if a 4 speed would be hard to switch over and if it would be expensive my buddy has a 4 speed out of a 1971 nova for free and i was wondering if anyone knew if that is a bad idea or any suggestions

Re: 4 speed transmission
Flywheel, linkage, shifter. floor tunnel work for the shifter, pilot bushing in the crank if it is not there already, maybe crossmember, different driveshaft length, alll issues to consider. Pedal and linkage of course.

Re: 4 speed transmission
Chevys are easy to convert. Most of the time you can find the pedals and linkage used, it is also available in a repro form. The drive shaft yoke might be different, but the basic drive shaft and transmission lengths are the same, unless you have a long-tail TH400 to consider.
Just sharing what I know, I think it could be a worth while swap with a little effort. Bob |
