1991 Cutlass Cruiser Idiling Problems
I have a 1991 Cutlass Cruiser SL Station Wagon with a 3.3L V6, and 49,000miles on it.
When sitting in park in my garage the car seems to be struggling to find an idle RPM. I just got back my mechanic and he thought it was the IAC, so I replaced it and the problem still exists. Also, when shifting from park to reverse, or from reverse to drive the RPM's drop drastically almost stalling the car out. In fact, this morning after starting the car I shifted from park to reverse and it stalled. If I haven't provided enough specific information please let me know, I'm new to GM cars and this forum. Thank you very much. |

Re: 1991 Cutlass Cruiser Idiling Problems
Welcome to AF, I would clean the throttle body for starters then do a full scan and look at sensor inputs.

Re: 1991 Cutlass Cruiser Idiling Problems
Hi I cleaned the throttle body and checked the sensors, they seem fine.
Below is a link of me videotaping the problem. The sound quality is not the strongest so bear with me. Any comments on the sounds being made please let me know. Thanks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=map4nqKrtMc |

How did you check the sensors?

Re: 1991 Cutlass Cruiser Idiling Problems
My dad actually checked them and said they where fine, I wasn't sure exactly how to do it. Would you mind telling me how to? I assume it's the O2 sensor you're talking about?

Re: 1991 Cutlass Cruiser Idiling Problems
There are several sensors, the usual way is to use a highline scanner and watch the input readings looking for skewed info being fed to the pcm, any other way short of using an oscilloscope is guess work at best.

Re: 1991 Cutlass Cruiser Idiling Problems
Sorry,
I am not very knowledgeable about car scanning. Like what tools to use/rent, or even buy. Is there a OBD Diagnostic tool and software i need to purchase? If so, what would you recommend. Sorry you have to spoon feed this info to me, but all this DiY automotive work is new to me, I'm just trying to find any way to save money. Thank you for being patient. |

Based on you last post you will need a pro to do this for you interpertation of the readings on the scanner are the key to the diagnosis.
