VH45DE weight???

I'm looking at swapping a VH45de into a 260z. But I really need to know how much the motor weighs. Does anyone know? Especially those who have done conversions and had their engines out..
I'd really appreciate any help.

Thanks Alot

I wouldn't sweat the weight, its an aluminum engine. You need to sweat the fit. This engine is wide and tall. Remember, the cams are on top of the head, not down in the V like a SBC.

In addition, you will probably be forced to use the JATCO automatic from the Q45. This engine's fuel and ignition management system requires many inputs from the trany and its controller.

A healthy engine and transmission will most likely cost $5,000.

You can possibly deal with these issues and do the swap, or you can take the money it would cost to do it right and buy a nice Lamborghini Espada.

vh45

I need dimensions on the VH45 engine im planing on droping it into another car for drag racing. What year/model engine would be most apropriet in terms of strength to turbo charge. The exact measurements i need is from the bottom of the sump where it bolts onto the bottom of the block NOT the extream lower part of the sump where the oil is held- to the top of the cylider bores or bottom of the head. Also the width at the top of the block left to right. Also the width of the block at the top of the block, the width of the engine without the exhaust manifolds.

Dat450z,

The VH45 weighs 3 lbs less than an L28 engine.
I am currently putting one in a 1970 240Z, I have twin turboed the engine and it was dynoed at 765bhp at the flywheel @ 18lbs(on pump gas), and 950bhp @ 26 lbs boost(on Avgas 130oct).

I picked up 4 engines for $500.00 each from a place in SunValley California.
Don't pay $5000.00, or 2500.00, that is rediculus, unless you are going to leave it stock and need a warranty. The trick is request a motor from the wreckers that is a trade in, I asked for ones with blown head gaskets only, so they gave them to me for $500.00 each. I did not mind them because I knew I would be modifying the engines anyway.

Now for the manual Transmission, I used a Borg & Warner 5 speed with a custom made engine adapter and 9 pound flywheel made by a company here in California. PM me for the info if you are interested in using a manual transmission.

Motor mounts, and turbo headers where fabricated by Cunnigham Racing.

You will have to wait like everyone else dude!

If things go well for me at work this year, I will be giving the car it's debute at the Silver State Challange in 2005!

But I will keep you posted, and if you remind me, before SSC, I will shoot you out some sneak pics

Re: VH45DE weight???

I think I remember a Road & Track article stating a weight of 521lbs or something like that. Pretty light, considering it's a DOHC V8. An iron block KA24DE I4 weighs 493lbs, according to Sport Compact Car.

Re: VH45DE weight???

I just picked up a cheap Q to pull the engine and toss in my 75 280Z. Those are some very kick ass numbers. I definitely can't wait to see a dyno.

you dont have to divulge any specific information, but if you could tell me if that power is with stock internals or lowered compression, that would be great.

im planning on a similar motor setup, and i just want to see if the $3500 worth of custom rods and pistons in 9:1 is overkill.

im assuming a custom copper headgasket and o-ringed heads.

you dont see too many people putting effort into modding these motors, so theres not alot of info available.
