Re: 1999 Pontiac.....Confusion

Not to worry--it was replaced with a new MAF sensor. I just mentioned the removal in the event someone else might have the same problem, as a means to help determine the culprit. I was warned of the possiblity of poor gas mileage, low power, etc. Although, I am a female, I am very inquisitive and ask a lot of questions. As far as the CPS....well, I don't want to ask Dad again right away to put it on....so I may wait a bit...I have driven him crazy along with several of you! Thanks so very much to all of you who replied!!

Re: 1999 Pontiac.....Confusion

Try hooking the mass airflow back up, then when the car fails to start, check for spark. IF you have spark, the mass airflow is the problem. If you don't have spark, you need a CPS, and it starting after unhooking the mass airflow was just a coincidence. But listen to GTP, CATZ and AKWE, don't drive it long without the mass air hooked up, as this can cause a bunch of problems ranging from crappy MPG to carbon buildup in the engine.

Re: 1999 Pontiac.....Confusion

The crankshaft position sensor? It is located behind the Hamonic balancer (the bottom most pulley,Also the biggest) To change this you will need about three hours a harmonic balancer puller (be advised that this puller (the one that I got) does not have the right anchor bolts You will need to purchase seperatley 8mm / aprox 5-6 in long) if these are too long you can put put washers on first to space it just right. Also anti sieze lube to put on the crank shaft and some lock tight to put back on the center bolt.

Please see thread started posted by me titled "someone please help me" direction are also posted there.
