1985 740GLE: What can I do to it?
I've been searching around for a while now and can't find any specific information on this car. My 740GLE is running great except it's kindof sluggish and I'm stuck with it for at least a year; what kind of (easier and cheaper) performance mods can I do to it? Can I turbocharge it at all? New intake? Exhaust? Etc? Any help would be appreciated.

you could turbo it... my local u-pull sells turbos for 25 bucks... the gle has the same block as the turbo'd ones.. you would hafta get a few more parts but it wouldnt be too hard.... its well worth it.

First look here.http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/
Then turbobricks as previous poster. The turbo and n/a blocks are different by compression. I added a turbo to my 85 740, if all parts are pulled from a yard. Expect about $300. You need turbo computers, hoses, tap into the block or oil pan, for turbo drain etc. When shopping for parts, you have the LH2.2 system. LH2.4 won't work. |
