Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hi,
beside my current project, the lotus 72 in 1/8, i got a new one. I try to build an Zakspeed turbo capri in 1/12 scale. This got a reason. When i was a little boy of 11 years,we went to hockenheim to the jim-clark memory race at 1982. There i saw the capri and i was able to sit in one. That was an awesome memory in my mind. A few days ago,i found the old pictures and i know what i have to do. I got an friend who will help me with this project. Its the master of capri modelling,in my eyes,el modello (Kurtl) from austria. Here is his amazing capri build. http://www.f1m.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=10583 So i got this idea in my mind, but i dont know how i can make it? First step was to digitize the tamiya 1/24 scale capri. So i was able to make cuts through the body where i needed it. This cuts where resized and printed. Than i glued it to an 4mm thick material named "Ureol". Next step was to cut it out,and use an beltsander to make the shape of the body. Cuts in direction x and here in direction y And this is the next step, put it all together. So it looks like today.Next will be some little changes to the cuts and after that,i will glue them together with 2k putty. Kind Regards Christian |

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Haven't seen a Zakspeed Capri in person but first saw one in an old movie called Shaker Run, which also has a pink and black Trans Am that I've been meaning to model.
I'll be keeping an eye on this too.

OMG !
A Capri Zakspeed in 1/12 !! Tamiya made Celica gr 5 body for RC cars and not a Capri !?. You need reference ? The tamiya kit is one of the first version of Capri http://www.modellismo.net/forum/stat...turbo-gr5.html http://www.modellismo.net/forum/stat...rbo-gr5-2.html

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Waow, what an incredible ambitious projetc !!
What is the material you're using to build the "squaring" chassis, is it soft wood or something derivated from wood ? I know about a material used by decorative arts students named in french "carton plume" which may be translated into "paperboard plucks', it's what I thought to use for such work and was wondering if it's also what you're using. |

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hi Phil,
ist a material called " Ureol" or "Necuron" or something like that. I got a link for you. http://www.bm-chemie.de/content/en/p...aterials.shtml Its a professional tool for the automotive industries. We use it at work in differnet sizes and thicknes. Its like wood, but easier to work with. Christian |

many thanks for your answer and the link. It's something close to what I thought, but probably closer to wood than "carton plume". Can't wait to see your progress with it and how you'll give life to this model. |

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hello,
today was "putty-day"! I puttied all the bodywork and made a y0 flaw over the body. The same to the little one on the desk. Now i can take the caliper gauge, take some measure from the little one,and make them double on the big one. ( I hope you can understand what i mean?) There is the front lamp in the making. Next step is take curb after curb and bring them to the big one. Here is a little overview of the putty-thing called capri(one day). The weight is about 4kg at the moment! Kind Regards Christian |
