Drivetrain creak/click normal?
I'm driving an 01 Ram truck I bought used at the beginning of September. The thing got it's safety inspection, blah, blah, blah from the 5-star dealer I bought it from.
The problem is this... When I begin to accelerate, forward OR reverse, I hear a clicking coming from under the truck. The dealer's service department said they had every tech and mechanic and even the shop's foreman look at the truck. They also called other Dodge truck dealers and came to learn that this noise is a normal characteristic of this vehicle. They told me the driveshaft is aluminum and towing stress will bring it out. Hmmm... They said to get a second opinion if it will make me feel better. My father-in-law drives a '96 Ram truck and it doesn't make the noise and he's a towin' fool! Do any of you have experience with this and do you think I should take it to another shop to have 'em check it out. I just don't want this to turn out to be an indication of a costly repair down the road, you know? Thanks everyone, Adam |

Re: Drivetrain creak/click normal?
I have a 03 and no clicks at all. I would say have someone you know check it out, or pay the $50-60 at any shop to have them diagnose it. I had to do that w/ my 98 Dakota, since the computer was f'd up, and it's expensive to repair. The warranty only had about 5,000 miles left on it, so the dealer prolly figured they'd wait for it to totally break until later. My buddy looked at it, found the problem, then I took it to Dodge and TOLD them what the problem was and BAM...new computer and no more problem.
