1989 Riviera-Water Pump shot?
Its not overheating or leaking coolant yet, but it is running a bit hotter than usual. When running it makes some awful whirring/humming noise that increases with RPMs. The sound is definitely coming from the passenger side of the engine. Had a friend that is quite good with cars come over and he thinks it is either the idler pulley, or the water pump or maybe a combo of the two. Would the water pump make this much noise if it was faulty?

Re: 1989 Riviera-Water Pump shot?
OK, UPDATE: Actually, on my way to autozone to buy the water pump I thought I needed, the car died in the turn lane and would not start. After getting towed home, I jump started it from another car and after 3 minutes of charging from the other guy's car it fired right up. Let it run for 10 minutes, shut it off and it started right back up. Would the alternator going bad cause all of these problems (sluggish acceleration, hard starting, humming noise that increases with RPMs)? Or something else?
