Bmw K100 cafe racer
Hi all,
This will be my first bike and, as usually with me, I have to modify it. I'm starting from a Tamiya BMW K100 and planning to turn into a cafe racer. I have a question: do you know where can I get brass tube/rod of around 2.5 mm in diameter? I need to fabricate a new frame for the project and want to solder the sections, hence the brass material. Eventually even plastic rod will work. See below for two photos of the bike in the current stage. |

Great idea, will look interesting!
Regarding the rod/tube, plastic is most often found in your model shop and so is brass tube if the shop is well equipped. Otherwise take a look at the hard ware store. /Joel

Re: Bmw K100 cafe racer
Well, I've ordered some plastic rod from Hiroboy's shop, so I'll try building the frame from plastic.
Other modifications I'm thinking to do on the bike: + rear side of the fuel tank to be reshaped using putty + seat to be scratchbuilt using putty + new clipons handlebars will sit under the upper tripple tree (if someone on this board can help me with lathe fabrication would be great) Color scheme should be classic: gloss black with gold details (or stripes?) and planning to use Zero paints. Any other ideas you can give are welcomed... |

Re: Bmw K100 cafe racer
Decided to rebuild the forks. So I cut the upper part and will replace it with metal tubing 3.5 mm.
Again, I need to find out an online shop where to get this tubing (I don't have any model shop around ) |

Re: Bmw K100 cafe racer
I'm coming back for some information: what kind of metal should I use for the forks, in order to look as realistic as possible, without painting it? I think aluminium goes well after polishing. What about steel? Any other ideas?

Re: Bmw K100 cafe racer
you can just get a steel rod and polish it.
