SC upgrade?
Okay, so my new 3.8 V6 engine has the SC stamped on the cylinder heads and the block (just noticed this). What does this mean for me?
***Please say what I'm hoping it means....*** |

Re: SC upgrade?
It doesn't mean anything unless there's a blower sitting on top of it.

Re: SC upgrade?
no, no, no...I'm not thinking that the SC makes it a supercharged engine....
I'm wondering if this means that it could handle a supercharger. I know that I would still have to change the wiring harness, etc. I just want to know if it's possible. Hehe, I'm not that much of a newb - but thanks for the reply! |

Re: SC upgrade?
Hah, I'm just ribbing you . I have no idea what the SC identifies the castings as but even if they weren't the ones you could still run a blower at a conservative boost level.

Re: SC upgrade?
The SC heads and block had different cooling passages in them.

Re: SC upgrade?
Well if they're stamped with SC, then of course.

Re: SC upgrade?
Schweet. I was also wondering if you knows of any step-by-step instructions or a "how-to" for this upgrade. I was looking at some SC's at the local junkyards, and saw that there is quite a bit involved in this swap. Aside from the wiring harness, I saw that the serpentine belt line is different (an extra pulley?), and the radiator (is THAT the intercooler?). I really want to do this myself, since this is kind of a personal thing now. So if anyone knows of anything that will help me, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for bringing this back, 8. |

Re: SC upgrade?
Look for 'melon' on TCCoA and SCCoA. He did a 3.8n/a to 3.8sc swap. I don't know what all he did, but he's the only person I know of off hand that did the swap.

Re: SC upgrade?
I'm doing the same swap on my 3.8 mustang man...so i'll post up here as well, the sc engines are alot stronger in the bottom end, but my engine has low miles so i'm not worried, and yes, thats the other thing, you need a sc rad and intercooler, cuz the intercooler will not fit in w/o that rad.
Also, is it for sure that you have to change the wiring harness?

Re: SC upgrade?
Thanks, Paul...I'd appreciate your notes. As for the wiring harness, I'm pretty sure that this is a necessity. Thanks for digging this thread up. It's been on my mental "to-do" list!
