Re: Taurus SHO VS. Integra GSR VS. Civic Hatch ZC
There are naturally aspirated SHO engines with over 300hp ,and supercharged ones at 350-500 hp area. Rumors tell that SHOshop has dynoed a customer after heavy modifications at over 500 wheel hp = 600+ hp at the crank. Of course the engine doesn´t have a long life expectancy but at 600+ hp who cares!
Despite the obvious performance nature of the engine it is still easy to drive daily even with some modifications. History Over the years, there has been a lot of speculation with the regard to the origin and capabilities of the SHO engine. Looking back at the 11 years since the engine introduction to the world, we can confirm some rumors and dispel others. The SHO engine is not based on a Formula 1 prototype. The SHO will only rev to 12,500 rpm once and it will not last 300,000 miles. On the other hand, it is a very good design with a strong rotating assembly where the crankshaft and connecting rods are forged, and the pistons are high-quality castings. The cylinder heads feature exceptional airflow. " Achieving 100 hp per liter is possible in street trim. " with the use of the original yamaha cams. ford replaced these cams and droped the hp to 220. Below 4000rpm the engine uses only the long runners to produce good torque at low engine speeds. At 4000rpm the butterfly valves for the short runners are opened and the engine can breathe freely all the way to and over the 7000rpm redline. Other main features include DIS ignition and 9.8:1 compression and 4-valve heads with four camshafts. The intake cams are driven by the timing belt but the exhaust cams are driven by chains from intake cams. The valves are shim adjusted, there commended adjustment interval is 60.000 miles but later 3.2 ATX engines had a 100.000 mile recommendation. The engine is not a hopped up stock engine like in most "performance" models. Ford did try to modify the 3.0 Vulcan engine for higher power levels and four-valva heads but luckily the block was too weak and the development was turned over to Yamaha. Therefore it is overbuilt and has no durability problems despite the rather high revving nature of the engine. Ford has also done pretty much everything to reduce the power output of the Yamaha built engine. The stock exhaust is about as bad as possible with sharp 90 degree bends and very small diameter curves in the catback part of exhaust. The original MAF is also only 55mm in diameter which may be barely enough but larger MAFs definitely help. |

Re: Taurus SHO VS. Integra GSR VS. Civic Hatch ZC
90gs
my 91 integra gs with intake and exhaust ran 16.86@82.64 on my first run and 16.794@82.689 (got the slips here) Roestreyev I have a stock 96 RS 5 spd. On the 1/4 mile, if you take the reaction time off, my best of 3 runs was 16.025 @ 82.5 mph. But I shifted in 4th gear a little early on that run. One of my books says 15.8 is the best time you can get with my car. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- well, is yours sedan or hatchback? if sedan it isnt TOO bad, I think the sedan is like 200 pounds more or so? not sure off hand but there is an average of .2 seconds more right there, and I saw a couple of LS hatches running 16 flat with just short ram intake. even though the RS is lighter I believe it is not much lighter, so shouldnt bee too much quicker there. so yours stock running a 16.7 is alright, I dont see an intake dropping .7 and watching these guys launch i believe they could do better so after time you should do alot better, but at least you arent up in the 17's. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- lol you foolsare saying a 16.7 is alright . hahaa. but a stock sho at 15.2 is no good . lol get ur facts str8 before u go asking stupid questions like who would win in a 1/4 mile drag .a crx , integra or an sho . well do some homework on those stock times and ...well you know.. sho's take the cake. you can make anything fast it just takes money. see u on the road |

No, his car is easily capable of a 15 second pass. Look up the specs.
You're only assuming hondas are slow because you're comparing your car to RS', GS' and, LS'. Seriously though 92sho, I have no disrespect for you or your car; SHO's are by no means half assed cars, but they're also not the fastest things on the road as you make them out to be. If you're going to compare your cars to ours, compare them to: Integra GSR's Integra Type-R's RSX Type-S Prelude VTEC All of which make low 15 second passes stock, and are easily capable of high 14's with a comptetent driver.
