EVO VIII in 2003
anyone else heard anything about the new EVO VIII to be released in 2003? Ralliart are trying to get around the 276 bhp agreement and are making the standard car just over 300bhp, with RS versions going to about 330bhp. The car will also be alot lighter than the EVO VII, using carbon fibre rather than reducing quality through less soundproofing etc. and the looks of the car wont be changed much. Brakes will also be better and there will be a new 6 speed box and a revised 4wd system.
Does anyone else have any other information or pictures on the new car? |

actually i just ran a quick search on google.com for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII, and it returned quite a bit of info on it. Supposedly the 7 will never make it to america, the 8 will arrive before

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SAYING THE VIII IS COMING OVER!!! As of right now, its still the VII. Mitsubishi said it will be the VII in its press release, and nothing else has been said to lead anyone to believe otherwise. Until January rolls around, NOBODY but Mitsubishi execs will know whether it will be the VII or the VIII, but considering there has been a press release telling us its the VII, I'm going to believe its the VII. And if it IS going to be the VIII, the mitsu execs are doing a helluva job being tight-lipped about it.

well the VIII is coming out in 2003 anyway, so i guess people are thinking what is the point in sending the 7 over to you when the 8 is gonna be released in the next couple of months, why not just send the 8 over and save alot of hassle. and the magazines/journalists (especially the japanese ones) come up with these rumours for a reason, they have sources and contacts within the respective companies.

Still no news on US Spec Version of VIII
Well all I know is that I'm not paying 30k for anything under 276hp. If anyone finds some more details on US Spec EVO drop me a line.
Thanx, Guru_[R1] |

Look at the new issue of Car and Driver...
The one with the BMW Z4 on the cover. There was a half page on the Evo VIII, and how it will come out in Japan next year as an '04 model. That will also be the version we will get, which will simply be called the Evolution. Looks like I was was right long ago. Man, I'm good.
Edit: I just found the specs from Car and Driver at EvolutionM.net. Here they are: U.S.-spec "Lancer Evolution" (no VII/VIII descriptor) 275 hp @ 6500 (down 5 from Jap-spec) torque also "down slightly" 5-speed manual or auto (no 6-speed) No Active Yaw Control No Active Center Diff Same Brembo brakes as J-spec Same 235/45ZR-17's 14.5 gal fuel tank Reinforcement beam in front bumper that will slightly change nose $27,000 to $29,000 There is hope: the AYC/ACD will be offered later as options. BTW, the second half of the page was about the Subaru Legacy B4(twin turbo EJ20) and how we might get a version of the next B4 too.

Real EVO VIII or VIII
Ok i am just going to be calling it the EVO only. The new EVO should have the same brembo breaks on all 4 sides, recaro seats, but no AYC or ACD. This is because cutting down on price and service cost. The new EVO will be shown at the LA Auto show on January 3rd. Thats when the real spec will be out for the EVO VII or VIII. If you need more info on this car feel free to e-mail me at Luckym85@aol.com
